Temple Announcement

On April 7, 2024, President Russell M. Nelson announced plans to construct the Edinburgh Scotland Temple at the 194th Annual General Conference. It will be the first temple built in Scotland and the fourth in the United Kingdom, comprised of England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. The historic city of Edinburgh has been the capital of Scotland since the 15th century. At the time of the announcement, the United Kingdom was home to around 185,000 Latter-day Saints in more than 300 congregations. Other temples in the United Kingdom included the London England Temple (1958), the Preston England Temple (1998), and the Birmingham England Temple (announced).1
